Europe's 25 cheapest destinations according to Airbnb

Airbnb has released a ranking of the 25 cheapest European destinations, with Georgia, Serbia and Turkey rated as the most affordable countries by accommodation price per night.

The list, compiled by the homestay network, looked at the average cost-per-night within the last year in European cities with at least 200 units.

Typical nightly prices in Tbilisi, Georgia were a bargain at US$30 (about R427). Rates in Belgrade, Serbia and Istanbul, Turkey billed just slightly higher, with both at US$33 (about R470) per night on average.

Poland in particular emerged as a great-value country to travel to, home to three of the cheapest cities in Europe - with Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw all present in the top 25.

Thessaloníki in Greece, Sofia in Bulgaria and the Romanian hub of Bucharest came in at 3rd, each with a typical nightly price of US$34 (about R484).

Saint Petersburg in Russia and Kiev in the Ukraine - both US$35 (about R498) per night on average - came next.

This was followed by Zagreb, Croatia and Warsaw in Poland, all priced at US$39 (about R555) per night on average.
