Three more members of what is believed to be Johannesburg's Rolex Gang were arrested in a breakthrough on Wednesday night and stolen goods to the value of R2.5-million were recovered.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said: "It is suspected that it is the same gang that was involved in the robbery of a Rolex watch and diamond earrings in Sandton [on Wednesday], where the victim was followed from Times Square [a hotel in Grayston Drive]."

On Wednesday night a tracking company alerted police to a "suspicious" white Mercedes Benz driving in Illovo. It was found to have been stolen from a house in Waterkloof Heights, Pretoria, last month.

Dlamini said one of the three men in the vehicle "was identified as a suspect on bail on a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm. He had earlier also been arrested in connection with the robbery of Rolex watches".

The three men, in their late 20s, were in possession of four unlicensed pistols. After making the arrests, police followed new leads and searched three houses in Sandton, Bramley and Alexandra.

Four plasma screen TV sets, an expensive racing bicycle, golf clubs, two diamond rings, nine pairs of designer sunglasses, nine cellphones, laptops, a play station, digital camera, waterproof video camera, DVD player, 10 wristwatches - including three Rolex watches - a projector, pistol and R4000 in cash were recovered.

Police are expected to make more arrests.
