ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe has lashed out at those who continue to pressure the ruling party to entertain the "succession debate".

This comes amid a campaign by the ANC Youth League to have its former leader, Fikile Mbalula, replace Mantashe as secretary-general at the ANC's elective conference next year.

Mantashe said ANC members should focus on influencing policy debates at the party's policy conference.

He was speaking at the SA Communist Party's 90th anniversary celebrations in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, yesterday.
