What is your favourite ingredient?
Onion, because it features in so many dishes and recipes.
What is your most useful kitchen gadget?
A chef's knife - you can use it for so many things besides chopping, cutting and slicing.
Who or what inspired your love for cooking?
My mom. Her food was always prepared with love.
Many people enjoyed her cooking and kept coming back for more, year after year.
Is your approach to cooking for your family different from your mother's when you were growing up?
Not really. My approach issimply to cook with love and to present dishes that my guests will enjoy.
What's your signature dish?
Pasta allo scoglio - a mixed seafood pasta dish with prawns, calamari and mussels in a tomato-based sauce with basil and a hint of chilli.
What are the 'go-to' dishes you make for your friends and family?
You can never go wrong with a braai when you have friends and family around.
A roast leg of lamb with mixed roasted root vegetables and a rosemary and garlic gravy will always score you points with your in-laws.
Is there any food that you will not eat?
Freshly slaughtered goat
Your favourite main course and dessert?
A flame-grilled sirloin steak - medium rare - with a thick mushroom and blue cheese sauce and some crumbed, roasted potato wedges.
For dessert, malva pudding with a warm custard sauce.
