MY HOMETOWN: Baltimore
Josef Talotta about Baltimore
What makes your city unique?
IT'S quirky people. If you've seen any John Waters movies, they're not far off the mark.
A secret wonder about your city a tourist wouldn't know?
All the offbeat museums are in Baltimore.
What is your best form of entertainment in your city?
A Ravens (a US football team) game.
Where's the best place to eat?
My sister's vegan restaurant, Liquid Earth, in Fell's Point. It's a regular award-winner.
And to drink?
John Steven Ltd, an old tavern in Fell's Point.
What can you get there that you can't get anywhere else?
Lots of crabs - the edible kind, not the STD.
What do you miss most about your city?
Walking long distances and visiting quirky places.
What makes someone a typical Baltimore local?
The stereotype - a woman with a beehive hairdo who says "hon" and watches TV on her front verandah.
Which place must one see before one leaves?
The original pastry shop Vaccaro's in Little Italy.
What should a traveller avoid in your city?
I'd avoid some of the "famous" destination restaurants at the harbour. -
