Mthethwa prioritises gang wars on Zuma's call

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa has prioritised the Cape Flats gang wars after president Jacob Zuma ordered him and Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to look into the scourge.

The ministers held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss and come up with solutions to the violence that has claimed dozens of lives in Western Cape.

Mthethwa's spokesman, Zweli Mnisi, confirmed yesterday the meeting between Mthethwa and Mapisa-Nqakula.

"The ministers met and they took a decision that they will meet to tactically and operationally look at this matter," said Mnisi.

"They will then advise based on their analysis, whether it is viable to deploy the army [in areas affected by gang violence in the Cape Flats] and if not, what would be the best option to deal with this challenge."

Mnisi said the issue was receiving "urgent attention and we will keep the public up-to-date on progress".

Last week, Western Cape premier and DA leader Helen Zille asked Zuma to deploy the army to assist the police in curbing gang warfare in Lavender Hill and Hanover Park.

But Mthethwa rubbished Zille's call during a visit to the besieged areas last week only to be ordered by Zuma to take drastic steps.

Recently appointed national police commissioner Riah Phiyega accompanied Mthethwa on a visit.

This week Zille said the gangs continued to terrorise communities in Western Cape and that the violence had intensified over the weekend.

She challenged Zuma to deploy the army and called on the two ministers to take a closer look at the warfare.

"It is relevant to highlight that state security organs have recently been employed to provide additional security for you [Zuma] at a function in Limpopo and the defence force has been used to support efforts to curb rhino-poaching," Zille said.

"These are not objectionable uses of such state resources; however, I now ask that the safety and security needs of the residents of Lavender Hill and Hanover Park be similarly prioritised."

I really dont know why such a matured well spoken person like Nathi Mthethwa is put in a portfolio that needs a butt kickin hands on person like Lindiwe Sisulu! this man is doing his image a diservice by trying to save the butt of Tony Enrich and Marius Fransman those tow are losers idits who can even out manouver the Mayor of Cpe Town De Lille. Nthai you are hanging with wrong bunch here baba. now you have to do exactly what Hellen asked for via an instruction by the Presidency this does not look good on you and the Police and ANC as a whole!

Good on Zuma!
If his mind applying was this swift under all circumstances, SA would be a far better place.

It horrifies me how peoples' lives are used as a political football by everyone. The SAPS is a national institution, not a party political sub structure. How the DA let it get this far is also a horror. The whole bunch of them should hang their heads in shame

So Comrade Nathi proved to us once again that he is not a proactive Minister! Well he has to wait for the poor indecisive President to instruct him to take care of the gangs after ten years of killings and disorder! It matters most for the SAPS if the ANCYL throws the chairs at the President but is absolutely nothing if the owners (public) of the Government are being killed for apparently no reason. Comrade Eirenrich pointed that DA is asking for favours and protection from ANC Government! Mi mi mi! This idiot does not even know that we do not have the Government of the ANC in South Africa, DA was sorting for Government intervention in a disaster struck section of one of the Provinces of South Africa in terms of section 202 (1) and (2) of the Constitution supported by the Defence Act 42 of 2002. People must be reminded that ANC is not the owner of Government but have been elected by the majority of the Citizens to run our Government as such should they got voted out they will not be entitled to Government Offices keys, pity Comrade Tony does not understand even after he had been given an example of that in the Western Cape!! It is sad to see that our Minister and Chairperson of the ruling party in the Western Cape does not know that our Constitution enshrined a multi-party system of Government on section 1(d). If you want to hide intellect and general knowledge for a Comrade put them in the book! but if you want to hide riches from them remove them out of Government! Our ANC cadres are suffering from illiteracy finish and klaar!

These things make me laugh! David Icke call it Problem-Reaction-Solution. The elitists produce the problem, the public reacts, the elitists comes up with a solution, and so it continues. LOL. In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king.
