The name of ANC chairman in KwaZulu-Natal Zweli Mkhize has been proposed for the position of ANC treasurer-general by the provincial executive.

This is according to sources who attended the cadre meeting in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday night.

Cadre forums have already been held in almost half of the 11 ANC regions in the province.

The forums are attended by branch leaders and members.

The sources said the party's provincial deputy chairman, MEC for transport community safety and liaison Willies Mchunu, announced at the meeting that the provincial executive committee, during its special meeting on Monday, had proposed a list of names for the top six for the ANC elective conference in Mangaung in December.

The list, circulated yesterday, includes the names of President Jacob Zuma for president, businessman Cyril Ramaphosa (deputy president), Gwede Mantashe (secretary-general), Jessie Duarte (deputy secretary-general), KwaZulu-Natal premier Mkhize (treasurer-general) and Baleka Mbete (chairman).

The sources said former national police commissioner Bheki Cele was eligible for nomination for the party's national executive committee.
