Police are trying to trace 10 young KwaZulu-Natal women who are believed to be victims of a sex trafficking ring.

A 23-year-old woman from Nkandla was rescued by the police during a sting operation in Pinetown a week ago.

At least one kidnapped woman is known to have been killed while trying to escape from her captors.

Police have formed a team to track down the kidnappers and rescue the women.

The search for the missing women and children is being made throughout KwaZulu-Natal.

The kidnappers are demanding ransoms from the victims' families.

Provincial police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said the police team was following several leads.

"Neither the women nor the kidnappers have been found," he said.

Zwane said the kidnappers would be arrested soon.
