Soapie stars must wait for kudos
Organisers of the inaugural Prime Time Soapie Awards have postponed them - just a month before they were to be staged - until April.
Producer Baby Joe Correira said a big name sponsor, which is injecting R800000 into the awards, had asked for them to be moved to next year.
The rescheduling will at least ensure they steer away from all the other award ceremonies taking place next month, including the Feather Awards on November 7, the Crown Gospel Awards on November 18, the Metro FM Awards and the SA Sports Awards.
The soapie awards were to have been announced on November 22.
Correira, who produced the former Duku Duku Awards, said yesterday: "The sponsor is putting in a sizable chunk [of money], and also you've got to think where would we fit in when there is so much going on in November. In December everybody is away so there's no point."
Some of the categories reportedly considered included the usual outstanding male and female actors, outstanding ensembles, outstanding villain, best on-screen couple, best romantic scene, best fight scene and best guest actor.
Performers like Michelle Botes (Cherel de Villiers on Isidingo), Slindile Nodangala (Mam' Ruby on Generations) and Clint Brink (Tino Martins on Scandal!) can put away their fine evening wear and hope for an exciting 2013.
The South African Film and Television Awards are due to be announced in March.
