Researchers from the Brooks College of Health found lifting weights decreased metabolic syndrome, risk factors for heart disease and diabetes.

BREAKTHROUGH OF THE WEEK

Ultrasounds are better than mammograms for detecting breast cancer in women under 40. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance found younger women more sensitive to ultrasounds.

Iranian scientists have created a chewing gum that cures dizziness, nausea and vomiting. The gum is made with dimenhydrinate, used in treating motion sickness.

NUTRITION BITE

Beans are good for your heart. A study by researchers at the University of Toronto found eating more pulses, including beans, chickpeas and lentils, can reduce the risk of heart disease by controlling blood sugar levels.
