Minister's Facebook ambush

Deputy Minister of Communications Stella Ndabeni seems to have found another platform from which to put her communications skills to use.
This week she took to Facebook, on which she claims close to 5 000 "friends", to launch a blistering attack on a former head of the World Bank, Mamphela Ramphele, calling her a "mistress" and even suggesting that she had no right to speak on behalf of Steve Biko's family.
On Monday, Ndabeni wrote on the social networking site: "I wonder why does the Biko family allow his mistress Dr Ramphele to speak on behalf of Biko whilst his wife is alive? Where I come from Mistresses are not allowed to speak in public about their lovers."
Ramphele had a son by the late Black Consciousness Movement leader. Ramphele has been scathing of the government's failures in critical areas such as education.
Ndabeni first posted a link to Ramphele's biography, written by Bonnie Leib. She followed up with the controversial post, which had garnered 57 comments and 54 "likes" by yesterday.
Asked for comment, Ndabeni said she was "Googling women in politics" when she stumbled on Ramphele's biography.
"I shared that thing with my Facebook friends. When you want to make it a public info, I can't be involved in that," said Ndabeni.
"So you will do what you do when you take other people's business and make them public."
Vuyiseka Dubula, general secretary of the Treatment Action Campaign, commented: "Hayibo, Stella, that's too judgemental sisi, when it comes to Biko and women I wouldn't have such strong views about Mamphela. She also has a right to speak about her lover who was well known to be her lover too even the wife was aware. Anyway that's my view."
But former chairman of the parliamentary portfolio committee on public enterprises, Vytjie Mentor, was more hard-hitting.
"He he he, well put comrade Stella Ndabeni Abrahams. Mistress in English means a girl friend or lover of a married man. This is an honest account of what Dr Mamphela Ramphele was to the Icon Steve Biko. Sometimes the truth hurts, sometimes culture is used to cover the truth."
It is not the first time Ndabeni has courted controversy. In July she slated Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on Facebook for publicly criticising President Jacob Zuma's multiple marriages.
"Life can be interesting. Dali Mpofu represented Julius Malema in the national disciplinary committee hearings. Mam' Winnie has always seen a great leader like Madiba in Malema, and now the mother of our nation sees immorality in Zuma. Who is a saint between the two of them?" Ndabeni wrote.

Posted 193 days agoPerhaps it is time that people like Dr. Ramphele consider joining mainstream politics and save us from this populist crowd who lack intellect to engage in a constructive debate. Form a new party please and I will be the first one to sign up.

The is nothing wrong to criticize the Government, the only problem problem is that our Government don't want to be told wrong things that their are doing. I am with Dr Ramphele on this one.

..... she has never been ANC so which position was she offered as it couldn't have been as Minister

Read PSG's comment again please.

Yes, but which position was she offered?
PSG
She was offered the very same Ministry that she is always criticizing "Department of Education" before it was give to the current Minister.
You do not have to be an ANC member to be give any ministerial or deputy minister post e.g. during Pres Mbeki's time the Minister of Science and Technology was from Azapo or something, currently the leader of Freedom Front Plus is a Deputy Minister of some department can't recall which one.
PSG
You are very right there when you say there is nothing wrong with criticing the Government.
What I have an issue with is that she was given an opportunity to change things and implement what she thinks others aren't doing right currently. What did she do? Turn the offer down.
Don't you see that as a bit hypocritical of her?
RSA.MommaCyndi
Okay, I hadn't thought of that. I just never heard of someone who wasn't politically affiliated to any organisation being a Minister. *sheepish grin* Thats what happens when you don't think things through, ne :)
I didn't know she had been offered it but I'm dreadfully disappointed in her for not taking the opportunity to put some actions where her mouth is. She sure talks a good fight, it would have been great to see that put into action.

If the President wakes up tomorrow and feels like shuffling his cabinet he’ll do so and in/exclude people as he sees fit.
That’s why they say that Ministers and Deputy Ministers serve in these positions at the discretion of the President.

Posted 193 days agoTypical Jenny-come-lately - didn't even know about Ramphele's massive contribution under trying times during apartheid!
Instead of picking on her well-known and widely documented affair with Bantu Steve Biko, why not disclose how Ramphele overcame the hardships of a black female doctor almost single-handedly starting and operating a medical facility, in a remote township during the height of an illegitimate regime, for the benefit of the community? Something which the current regime cannot mangage, despite all the money it takes from it's taxpayers!

Posted 193 days agoSisi when you have nothing to say , learn to shut up. Mamphele has done more good for the impoverished people of SA than most of some women who claim to be in the ANC women's league but let k*k to go on in the name of the ruling party.
Check amongst yourselves and who is not a mistress and never was , hands up !

Posted 193 days ago"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people"
Eleanor Roosevelt. "
And here we find you discussing people and events.....so i guess that makes you small minded...average at best, in Eleanor Roosevelts opinion!
Now the woman you choose to critic, she discusses ideas, over and over and over......and yes, she is indeed a GREAT woman!
So, you have proven the great Mrs Roosevelt correct by your actions and words!

Posted 193 days agoYou do know these GPS enabled devices can be tracked within minutes very very accurately?
You realise that criminals who have these devices can then be caught and prosecuted?
You should also know we have one of the highest crime rates in the world?
Maybe less politicing and more thought, useful ideas and hard work are called for?
Just a thought!
