THEY say there's no rest for the weary but, if you're a celebrity, is toiling on New Year's Eve still just work?

Local entertainers said yesterday that they will either be performing, emceeing or at home when they ring in next year.

TV presenter Boitumelo "Boity" Thulo will be emceeing at Beach on the Track, in Welkom.

"I'm getting paid and I'm taking two people with me, so I won't be saying 'Happy New Year' to strangers," she said.

Beach on the Track is a three-day affair that will also feature David Kau, Shugasmakx, Teargas, Donald, Da Les, Ralph Gum, Harrison Crump and Kabelo Mabalane.

Brickz was approached to play a gig in Port Elizabeth but he bemoaned having to "work" on New Year's Eve.

Louise Carver will be singing for her supper at a private show in Nelspruit because "sometime we have to redo the kitchen".

HHP will party and perform at the Booster Bash, in Botswana.

Metro FM's Glen Lewis, DJs Naves and Phectacula, Fistaz Mixwell, Ozy, and Ashton Ables will be playing at the Mother City New Year's Eve street party, which is always well-attended. VVIP tickets cost around R1500, which gets you either a bottle of bubbly or vodka, access to all four dance floors, and food.

Khuli Chana, AKA, Mi Casa and DJ Zinhle will be at the Vodacom Unlimited New Year's Eve party at Emperors Palace - tickets for R150 at Computicket.

So there's nothing new here: while we celebrate time off work, celebrities keep making money. It's a cruel world.
