WHEN it comes to local celebrities who have dominated their industries, a few big names crop up.

Of course, there was Chad le Clos, who recently completed a medal-laden short course championships in Instanbul to back up his London Olympics performances.

Then comic Trevor Noah returned from his US residency to perform 54 sellout shows (not forgetting his appearances on a few big shows Stateside).

But three women in particular have had stellar years, which we rate above everybody else's achievements in the entertainment arena.

TOYA DELAZY:

The life of an entertainment reporter means one is invited to a fair share of events, and very few of these events, in my memory, have been without Toya Delazy on the bill. Her tour manager, Anthony Morgan, estimated she has played more than 90 gigs this year.

Toya Delazy's debut album, Due Drop, was released in March , spawning four national radio top 10 hits - Pump It On , Love Is In The Air , Heart , and Are You Gonna Stay?

This is someone who was signed to Sony Music Africa in April last year. Last month, she opened for US pop star Adam Lambert and UK crooner Daniel Bedingfield.

She was nominated in the Newcomer and the Video of the Year categories at the Channel O Music Video Awards. And she's the granddaughter of IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

BONANG MATHEBA

She's no newbie to topping lists, but even she excelled in 2012. Very few girls can quit as big a show as SABC1's Live, ditch her follow-up show on the same channel (The Link), and get two more presenting gigs within weeks (Clash of the Choirs on Mzansi Magic and Top Billing on SABC3). This is after she snagged a seat on MTV Base's VJ Search judging panel.

What else? She landed the covers of magazines, including Lapologa, Heat's winter style guide, Joburg Style, Drum, Elle, and Destiny. She co-hosted the Channel O Music Video Awards, and don't forget that Fag Hag of the Year win at the Feather Awards.

ANELE MDODA

Her Twitter bio simply reads: "Be as interested as you are interesting" and she has grown by leaps and bounds over the past year.

Just when there were gasps of disbelief when she quit national radio station 5FM for 94.7 Highveld Stereo, she also showed she was in charge of her game. Mdoda was partof Pan McMillan's The Youngsters series where she authored her hilarious pocket book, It Feels Wrong to Laugh, But ...

Mdoda also picked up the Media Personality Award at July's Glamour Magazine Women of the Year Awards. She was also voted a Rising Star at the Women in the Media awards. This was followed up by her win as overall winner at the SA Style Awards.
