A container truck driver was killed when his vehicle plunged into Durban harbour yesterday afternoon.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the man was believed to have lost control of the truck, which plunged off the wharf and smashed into the side of a ship before sinking in the harbour.

"Police search and rescue divers recovered the man's body," he said.

NSRI Durban Station commander Clifford Ireland said: "Police are in the process of recovering the truck and have opened an inquest docket."
