Johannesburg's first princess of electro has caught the eye of the fashion world.

Steve Marais, JP Hanekom and Caroline Mackintosh have photographed her. She's appeared in Religion Clothing's fashion film. Most of the country's top fashion magazines have featured her.

So who is this trend-setting "it" girl?

With Nick Nesbitt, the drama school graduate delivers a medley of electronic sensations. Their duo, The Frown, was recently signed to Sheer Group. Raised by a single mother, the enigmatic 28-year-old spins a web of fashion, party and performance to deliver a carefully orchestrated spectacle of light and sound. Her silky jilted vocal gives the music an ethereal, unsettling feel.

Don't be fooled by her allure - she is quite treacherous when ordering a drink or owning a dance floor. The two use samples and strobe lights to provide a strange, macabre showpiece. The Frown was a collaborative project from inception two years ago - Rakow has shown she is no wallflower when it comes to working with other artists. Names such as Double Adapter and Spoek Mathambo are usually bandied about. Rakow's erstwhile band, Love on Roller Skates, was younger and disposable. Rakow's current sound, however, has matured and shows flashes of a much darker side.

Young and talented, The Frown are at the forefront of the local s cool culture. This year will see the band taking on South Africa and launching into the international spotlight - they have tours abroad on the cards.

Catch one of Rakow's DJ sets at Bob Rocks, Greenside, Johannesburg.
