Kanye keeps it clean for SA
Depending on which Hollywood tabloid you read, US rapper Kanye West, the winner of 18 Grammy Awards who arrives in Johannesburg tonight, is quite the control freak.
He reportedly overhauled pregnant girlfriend Kim Kardashian's entire wardrobe, and drove Watch the Throne collaborator Jay-Z crazy with his obsessive behaviour in the studio.
To Sarit Reouveni Tomlinson, the managing director of PR company Capacity Relations, West is simply a perfectionist.
Capacity Relations is handling the PR for Yeezy's Castle Lite Sub Zero one-night-only gig tomorrow at The Dome in Randburg, northern Johannesburg.
Tomlinson insisted: "Let me tell you, he's not excessive at all. We were expecting demands from here to Timbuktu.
"But he's a guy that looks after himself and his appearance.
"He takes great pride in that - he's an absolute perfectionist personified," Tomlinson said.
She would not reveal much about what's in his backstage rider, but she teased that he asked that the furniture in his dressing room be entirely white.
However, a leaked March 2007 rider to his contract shows just how much care the 35-year-old takes of his image.
Among his "must have items" are two tubes of Carmex lip balm, hand sanitiser, Nivea Intensive lotion, Neutrogena face scrub, baby wipes, alcohol wipes, Neutrogena dandruff shampoo, men's large black soft cotton boxer shorts, L'Occitane soap, a tube of Arm and Hammer baking soda toothpaste and Arm and Hammer "powder fresh" anti-perspirant, a pair of shower shoes, a soft-bristle toothbrush, white tube socks and a large white crew-neck T-shirt.
Then again, he did once rap: "We all self-conscious, I'm just the first to admit it" in his 2004 hit All Falls Down.
Tomlinson said about 10000 show tickets had been sold by yesterday morning.
"Yes, we have chosen the play list - he will be singing across his various albums," she said.
"He's going to take South African fans back to his first album [ The College Dropout ]."
Fans will need to freshen up on songs such as Through the Wire , Jesus Walks and Slow Jamz , but the show will also feature fresher material such as All of the Lights, and Clique from the Cruel Summer compilation album.
West has refused to be interviewed in South Africa.
