Seven-times SA Music Award winner Afrikaans singer Kurt Darren wasairlifted to Milpark Hospital, Johannesburg, after breaking eight ribs in a car accident on Saturday night.
Louis van Wyk, of Music Profile Management, said on Facebook yesterday that the singer was "in a lot of pain in ICU", but "out of the danger zone".
Darren is expected to cancel several performances, including Vryfees and Skouspel Plus, as he recuperates for an expected six weeks.
The singer's brother, Darren van Heerden, said Darren had been on his way home after watching the Blue Bulls playing the Sharks at Loftus Versveld, with his friend Marnus Bisschoff, and Bisschoff's assistant, Nadia van Rensburg.
Van Heerden said: "A car approached them from the middle of the road, heading direct for the car in which Kurt and his friends were travelling.
"[Kurt's car was] forced to swerve and so their vehicle rolled down an embankment on the Kameelfontein road, north of Pretoria."
Bisschoff and Van Rensburg were taken to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital, Pretoria, with minor injuries.
Darren's wife, Dunay, who is travelling abroad, has been told about the accident.
