Within minutes of appearing in the Sasolburg Magistrate's Court in connection with a multimillion-rand cash heist, disgraced former crime intelligence officer Captain Morris Tshabalala fired his lawyer.
Tshabalala, who was involved in assessing security threats against President Jacob Zuma, was imprisoned last month in connection with a 1994 armed robbery in Pretoria.
He is facing several charges relating to a R3-million cash heist in Sasolburg, the Free State, in February.
Tshabalala briefly appeared yesterday with his five co-accused, including his former police colleague, Sergeant Willby Molefe, under a heavy police and Correctional Services guard.
Tshabalala abandoned his bail application last month.
His former lawyer, Dolph Jonker, last night declined to comment on why he was fired .
"It is private and not for the public domain. I will definitely not speak about [it]," he said.
Molefe and Tshabalala's other co-accused, Sipho Nkosi, Mapotswe Moloi, Lehlogonolo Tlekelele and Sipho Motsamayi, continued their bail application.
Magistrate Sandra Sujanani postponed the hearing to next week after a dispute arose over certain affidavits.
