Shrien Dewani has secured what are possibly some of the country's foremost legal minds to argue his case in the Cape Town High Court.
Sources within the legal fraternity believe that advocate Francois van Zyl SC will act for the 33-year-old British businessman.
The multimillionaire's family can easily afford a team of top lawyers.
Advocate Mike Hellens SC, who is currently an acting judge, might also be retained.
As speculation abounds about who will be Dewani's legal representative, the state has gone to ground about who will be fighting for the prosecution.
Justice Department spokesman, Mthunzi Mhaga said the Western Cape director of public prosecutions would convene a "technical meeting" today.
A Cape Town lawyer described Van Zyl as "top-class and very proper".
"Not flashy, just does the job well," said the lawyer.
Van Zyl has been involved in several high-profile cases as an advocate and has served as an acting judge.
Most notably he represented Schabir Shaik in the highly publicised fraud and corruption case in the Durban High Court.
He also acted for Stellenbosch University student Jacobus Eksteen, who murdered fellow student Erin van Rensburg.
Eksteen was sent to Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital for observation.
Dewani will be admitted to the same hospital after appearing in the Cape Town High Court tomorrow.
Contacted on Friday, Van Zyl referred all questions about legal representation to the instructing attorney.
Hellens also refused to comment. He acted for murdered mining mogul Brett Kebble.
