Cape Town blogger and food lover Anél Potgieter's magic in the kitchen has propelled her to clinch the coveted Eat Out Food Blog of the Year accolade for the second time in a row.

Eat Out magazine hosted the awards at the Stellenbosch Slowmarket at the weekend. Potgieter's blog, lifeisazoobiscuit, beat seven other finalists after garnering more than 50% of the public's votes.

Potgieter spends most of her free time inventing recipes in her kitchen, taking pictures of the food and blogging about it. She started the blog after taking part in the Masterchef SA 2012series, in which she finishedin the top 35.

Potgieter juggles her demanding day job, as a communication specialist, with "experimenting" in the kitchen.

"I sacrifice a lot. I don't see my family and friends as often as I would like. My work keeps me busy during the day; at night and at weekends I write and cook."

She steers clear of corporate endorsements, saying: "I want [readers] to understand my raw love and honesty with my food and that they can trust my recipes, that they are all tested and cooked with so much love and photographed by myself. I want to be a happy blog and a happy place."

Asked about her best recipe, she responded: "This is very personal but I do love my fennel-infused watermelon sorbet.

"I served it on strawberry carpaccio and pomegranates. The combination of the liquorice flavour of the fennel and the watermelon was brilliant. And with the strawberry and pomegranates made a very unique, fresh but still simple summer dessert."
