Could YFM station manager Kanthan Pillay still be smarting from seeing four of his presenters leave for national radio station 5FM?

He told a Twitter follower, who asked him if he "likes" 5FM, that he did because the SABC station made his "look good just by existing".

He added: "And they take all our worn-out talent. Kudos!"

When the follower prodded further, asking if Pillay was suggesting he produced worn-out talent, he responded that he didn't, because "most leave while they're on top".

YFM recently let go of Bonang Matheba, Sizwe Dhlomo, Siyabonga Ngwekazi, DJ Warras, Thando Thabethe, Tumi Vorster and Solomzi Phenduka.

5FM station manager Tim Zunckel called Pillay's comments "sour grapes".

"I have never had contact with him [Pillay]. Some of the talent that moved across said he was looking for my number [but] I've never heard from them.

"I can also confirm that we have been approached by more than one YFM presenter ... to see if they, too, can join the 5FM crew," Zunckel told The Times yesterday.

Pillay retorted: "My only comment is I wish them the very best with their new lineup.

"They're going to need it."
