The DA has hit back with a new advert after the Independent Communications Authority of SA banned its Ayisafani ad. Icasa said that advert incited violence as it complained of a rise in police brutality.

A radio advert bearing a similar message was also banned by the state broadcaster.

In the new advert, Gauteng premier candidate Mmusi Maimane again stands in front of the mirror, and tells viewers that "iDA Ayisafani" (The DA is not the same), while the camera cuts to an image of a sea of the party's black supporters.

Maimane tells viewers the DA has a real chance of victory, and then delivers some of the party's election promises.

The DA indicated that it would seek a high court order to set aside the ban, saying that it amounted to censorship.
