Next season's Nedbank Cup winners might have to sterilise the trophy after Orlando Pirates players posed naked with it in the changing room showers.

In the photo, seven Bucs players are seen stark naked, covering their "goods" with their hands, with the trophy at their feet.

The image, presumed to have been taken on cellphone, trended heavily on social media yesterday.

One of the culprits, Thandani Ntshumayelo, owned up to leaking the picture on his Instagram profile yesterday. He also sent an apology, through Twitter, to the club and the competition sponsors, Nedbank.

The picture is believed to have been taken moments after Pirates beat Bidvest Wits 3-1 to win the Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban last Saturday.

The club's administration executive Floyd Mbele said an internal inquiry would be launched to establish who took the saucy snap and how it spread to the public domain.

The celebration did not go down well with the sponsors. Head of marketing Sydney Mbhele said: "We hope [that the players have] now had a moment to reflect and learn from this experience."
