Another scandal is threatening to engulf the DA following the leaking of a private Twitter conversation between the party's youth leader, Mbali Ntuli, and a friend on Lindiwe Mazibuko's sudden departure.
In the tweet, Ntuli dismisses allegations that Mazibuko was fired, saying: "I'm surprised Lindi [Mazibuko] lasted as long as she did. They have been awful to us. Anyways I am happy for her."
Mazibuko announced a day after the May 7 election that she would not be returning to parliament as DA leader as she would be studying at Harvard University in the US.
Yesterday Ntuli said she was worried that a private conversation had been leaked following the hacking of her friend's Twitter account.
She blamed opposition parties for "[potentially] doing that [hacking]".
"It's putting us in a serious position. It's starting to be serious when people are digging into things that are personal information. It's the other person's account. He was very upset about it. I'm not sure what legal action he's going to take."
Mazibuko's departure has been blamed on the fallout with party leader Helen Zille over the DA parliamentary caucus's decision to vote in favour of the Employment Equity Bill last year. Zille has denied sidelining black leaders within the party.
