Tablets to overtake PCs

Tablets have been growing in popularity since the launch of Apple's iPad in 2010 and now the number of tablets shipped worldwide is about to overtake that of PCs for the first time.

Analysts predict that, this year, 321million tablets will be shipped, up from 256million this year. By contrast, 317million PCs will be shipped next year, down from 308million this year.

Sales of cellphones are expected to reach 1.9billion this year, a 3.1% increase on last year.

Analysts Gartner predicts that smartphone sales will represent 88% of global cellphone sales by 2018, up from 66% this year.
