A man in Australia narrowly survived an attack with a crossbow after the bolt hit a laptop he was carrying.
The frenzied attack was allegedly carried out by Jeffrey Hooten, a US citizen who is accused of travelling to Australia to murder his ex-wife's husband, Greg Williams.
Hooten is said to have used a crossbow to shoot at Williams in the driveway of his home north of Sydney. Williams, an engineer, thought it was a prank.
But after firing the crossbow bolt, Hooten ran at Williams and smashed an axe into his head, a court heard. The men wrestled to the ground until a passer-by stopped them.
Williams told Yahoo 7 News: "He shot me in the belly and once that was over and I realised I was okay then I thought, 'I need to get on top of this guy'. He hit me on the head and obviously it hurt but after the impact I thought, 'Nope I'm still good to go, I need to muster up everything I can and subdue this guy'."
Police charged Hooten with attempted murder and said he was carrying knives, a crossbow and a piece of wire. He was refused bail.
Williams received stitches to his head.
