Duminy was a rock in defence

After day two, South Africa have put themselves in a great position to either win the Test match or to ensure they can't lose it.

Everything went beautifully to plan with some superb batting down the order, in particular by JP Duminy. What I liked about his batting was the classical manner in which he made sure when defending on the front foot against the spinners, to get well forward and smother the spin.

I'm pleased Quinton de Kock got some runs; a good wicket-keeping performance may just get the selectors thinking about him as a permanent fixture in the Test team. A word of caution though: I think he has a lot of work to do on his defence. At times he is rather loose outside off-stump for a batsmen of his ability. But he is still young and I hope he recognises this because he is really good to watch.

For South Africa it is now up to the bowlers and wickets are not going to come easy. I think they will bowl Sri Lanka out but the big question is: Can they do it twice?

For me Vernon Philander, with his unwavering accuracy, may pose the biggest problems, particularly if the wicket starts to stay a bit low.

If nothing is happening for the pace bowlers, Imran Tahir has to come to the party. He won't find too many wickets in Test cricket as ideal as this one for him. The next two days could be the biggest of his Test career.
