For the first time in a long while, hope was awakened in me by your front page photograph of a Muslim woman and a Jewish man kissing, and the article headlined "Jews and Arabs refuse to be enemies" about the social media campaign (both July 25).

What heartening news that this social media campaign is spreading like wildfire, started by a Muslim and a Jew in the US.

It just shows there is far more interaction between the two peoples around the world than is revealed by the media, and that we should stop generalising and intensifying hatred for one or the other over the conflict in the Middle East.

I am convinced that most people, whatever religion or race, do not want conflict and war, and that we all want to live in peace and harmony with each other as we are all dependent on this beautiful planet.

Left to ourselves, without the interference of politicians and autocratic leaders, we would succeed in living peacefully, side by side.

It again shows the power of the individual using social media to send the real message of the people to others around the globe.

More must add their voices to this wonderful inspiration of two young people wanting peace, until the leaders of all countries and all the powers that be will have to take notice that we are not sitting back and being forced to live as we do not want to live.
