Mix and match

Some trends translated instantly from the catwalk to the street. Marianne Fassler's signature clashing prints, above, a look that has been taken to the limit by fashion maestro Chu Sawannapha, was seen out and about on Cape Town streets, left. The look reached a global market a few years ago when no less than Louis Vuitton created an African print-inspired range.

Also seen on the streets...

The overcast skies and cold winter winds made fresh pastels, strappy summer dresses and skintight Bermuda shorts inappropriate. Instead, stylistas dressed in fur coats - both real and fake - in a myriad of shapes, sizes and colours. A white fur coat with black stripes was seen on four different people. Clearly the skunk look is in.

Blanket appeal

Another popular street look is the blanket in mohair, cashmere, even crocheted, thrown over the shoulders and pinned with a brooch.
