REALIGNMENT: Agang SA leader Dr Mamphela Ramphele

After a run of bad news, former Agang leader Mamphela Ramphele has a reason to smile: The Cape Town High Court has gagged her detractors.

Judge Dennis Davis has ordered her detractors - a group that has effectively pushed her out of the party she formed - to stop making unfounded allegations against her.

She objected to court papers that accused her of fraud in the party's feud over which of its two parallel national executive committees is legitimate.

She asked the court to strike out parts of the submissions that accused her of mishandling party funds. She said these allegations were designed to demean her as a "final stamp of approval of their hijacking of the control over Agang".

Ramphele quit the party after it performed extremely poorly in the May general elections, collecting less than 0.3% of the vote.
