At the movies this weekend
Guardians of the galaxy
A brisk and breezy superhero movie that provides plenty of visual spectacle and humour, but is sometimes undermined by its own facetiousness. It feels a little half-hearted compared with other Marvel blockbusters.
Geoffrey Macnab, The Independent
Mr Pip
This highly personal effort from 'Shrek' director Andrew Adamson mixes magical realism with hard-hitting historical drama about a young woman's 'Great Expectations' obsession. The filmmakers have their hearts in the right place. Jordan Mintzer, The Hollywood Review
