Researchers have found that people drink their beer more slowly if it is from a straight glass.

People drink beer about 60% slower from a straight glass than a curved one, online health journal PloS One reported.

The University of Bristol in the UK recruited 160 students to drink beer or lemonade while watching a BBC documentary.

They were also presented with computer images and asked to judge the mid-point of a glass.

Students, it turns out, drink a lot faster when given their beer in a full round glass.

"Participants also misjudged the halfway point of a curved glass to a greater degree than that of a straight glass," the researchers said.
