The video for Nicki Minaj's latest single, Anaconda, has undoubtedly saved it from tanking quickly - and at one point this week had her fans eyeing breaking a record.

The Barbz, Minaj fans, sought to tip Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball off its perch as the video holding the 24-hour record for the most views across Vevo - 19.3million.

And Anaconda stood a good chance, thanks to the teasing artwork for the cover of the single, released earlier, in which Minaj's ample derriere is proudly displayed.

When the delayed video finally dropped this week, it predictably prompted a flurry of tweets, virtual gasps and memes.

Minaj and her posse of women endowed with sizable posteriors shake and make their butt cheeks "clap" in a steamy jungle setting. The video also features suggestively placed bananas and milky liquid dripping from a coconut.

Minaj gives rapper Drake a lap dance, leaving him panting.

Whew! After all that, however, the music video hovered around 15million views - still some way behind Wrecking Ball.

Viewers were left either traumatised or thankful:

@Lumko_SA: "Felt like I was doing something wrong when I watched the Anaconda video. Guess that means I'm still a bit of a prude."

@theferocity: "The look on Drake's face at the end of the video . LMAO. Amazing."

@thato01: "OH MY GOD! Nicki Minaj Anaconda video just gave me LIFE WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF PAROLE. Here for all of it!"

@mojaklehoko: "Shout out to Minaj's stylist . Who knew you could make a bikini out of dental floss and an eye patch. #boss"
