HAPPY WOMEN: Nomonde Bulekiwe is the subject of one of David Tshabalala's illustrations

In his project 'Run The World', graphic designer David Tshabalala posts portraits on Instagram of women who 'carry a beacon of inspiration in their respective walks of life'.

He included Zama Phakathi, one of South Africa's youngest black curators. He tells us more:

What is it?

'Run The World' is an illustration project that has run through August, Women's month. An illustration is exhibited daily on Instagram.

What inspired it?

My women friends have always asked me to draw them for fun. I thought it would be great to do something meaningful to honour great women.

How have people responded?

It's crazy. We'll have printed illustrations exhibited at StopSign Art Gallery at Arts On Main on Friday.

Some of the subjects?

Nozuko Mapoma, Jess Jorgensen, Sherilea Gasper and many others.
