A German ministerial report on the practicability of introducing an "anti-stress law" could result in bosses being banned from contacting employees out of office hours.

"There is an undeniable relationship between having to be constantly available and the rise in mental illness," Andrea Nahles, the employment minister, told the Rheinische Post.

It could soon be illegal for your boss to phone or e-mail you outside of office hours - if you live in Germany.

German stress levels have been rising, with smartphones believed to be the biggest culprit because they keep people in constant contact with the office.

Nahles conceded the law would be hard to implement.
