South African rapper Cassper Nyovest has taken the continent by storm.

He boasts five nominations for the 11th Channel O Africa Music Video Awards just 50 days since his debut album, Tsholofelo, was released on iTunes.

The only other artists to bag as many nominations were KO of Teargas fame, with his smash hit Caracara , and Nigeria's Davido.

Channel O director Nkateko Mabaso said it was "refreshing to see newcomers go against industry veterans ".

Fans can vote up to 100 times for their favourite artists via the Channel O website or the WeChat app. Voting began last night and will close at midnight on November 23. The event will be staged on November 29 at Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto.
