The country's top domestic tourism destination wants to grab the attention of South Africans who have never been on holiday.

Using a first of its kind reality game show, Holiday Swap, KwaZulu-Natal aims to showcase the province, known for its Berg and beaches, to new travellers.

"Most South Africans have never experienced a holiday or been able to share in the wonderful memories that are created when experiencing a new place or activity," Tourism KwaZulu-Natal chief executive Ndabo Khoza said.

"Through Holiday Swap we believe that many people will see opportunities and activities in KwaZulu-Natal that they did not know existed."

The new show, to be screened from February 9, will be hosted by former Isibaya actress Nomzamo Mbatha.

It will feature two teams of friends, colleagues or family members, who will be taken out of their comfort zones when their dream holidays are swapped.

Each of the 13 episodes will have challenges which, if met, will earn points for the team.

At the end of the series the team with the most points and the biggest public following will win a five-star "dream holiday" in KwaZulu-Natal.

Viewers will be able to book for any of the travel experiences they have seen on the show.

"New travellers will get a preview of what they will experience while enjoying a fully packaged holiday on which all their needs will be taken care of - from transport, to accommodation and activities," said Khoza.

The packages will be sold on lay-by or credit.

People who want to compete on Holiday Swap have until October3 to apply.

Auditions will be in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.

Tourism KwaZulu-Natal spokesman Vikki Vink urged entrants to dream big because the tourism body would pick up the tab. For more information visit www.holidayswapkzn.co.za
