Liverpool are confident they can put a frustrating run of domestic form behind them when they face FC Basel in Switzerland in a Champions League Group B match tonight.

The Reds are currently languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League after Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Everton in the Merseyside derby after conceding a stoppage time equaliser to a stunning Phil Jagielka strike.

But midfielder Jordan Henderson believes the performance against Everton, which featured a Steven Gerrard free kick to put Liverpool in front, means they can go to the St Jakob-Park in a confident frame of mind.

"I don't think it'll affect us because the performance level was very good," said the midfielder.

"We've got to take the positives out of that. We've just got to keep going and keep playing like that.

"If we keep putting in performances like that we'll win more than we don't," he said.

Liverpool go to Switzerland having started their Group B campaign with a 2-1 win against Ludogorets Razgrad of Bulgaria a fortnight ago, although they required an injury-time Gerrard penalty to get the three points in their first match in the competition for five years.

Manager Brendan Rodgers' side are on paper strongly fancied to progress to the last 16 along with Real Madrid, but a slip-up tonight will put them under pressure ahead of a double-header against the defending European champions.

Rodgers confirmed he would check on the fitness of striker Daniel Sturridge, who has missed the last five matches due to a thigh injury, but is now getting closer to a comeback, raising hopes that he might be involved at some stage.

"I'll see how he is. He wasn't far away for Everton, but he certainly wasn't fit enough to be on the bench," said the manager.

In other action, it is almost a given that Arsenal will reach the contest' s knockout stages but their path to the last 16 could become "problematic" if they fail to beat Galatasaray tonight .

That was the stark warning from midfielder Santi Cazorla ahead of the clash with the Turkish side at The Emirates, where Arsenal will attempt to kickstart their European campaign after failing to turn up in Dortmund two weeks ago.

"It was a bad game [in Dortmund]," Cazorla said. "Now we are fully aware that we are almost obliged to win the next game because there may be problematic times for us if we don't.

"It's true that Arsenal have a great record when it comes to the group stage. However, all that history doesn't count now."
