Western Province No 8 Nizaam Carr is in danger of missing the Currie Cup final after a hip injury during Saturday's 31-23 semifinal win over the Blue Bulls at Newlands.
Carr, who has been one of the form players in the tournament, was voted the Western Province Players' Player of the Year.
He has been influential and his absence will be felt.
He left the field in the first half with a shake of the head, indicating that he understood the injury to be serious.
Replacement Sikhumbuzo Notshe produced a strong display off the bench in his preferred position of No 8, but coach Allister Coetzee remained optimistic that Carr might make it.
"Nemo [Carr] suffered a hip pointer injury and he will have to undergo some scans to see if anything is torn," Coetzee said.
"I'm hoping that he is cleared because of the way he has played the whole season. It would be sad if he can't play in the main game, but Notshe has grabbed his opportunity.
"That's a compliment to our succession planning and he is ready if Nemo doesn't get the all-clear."
If it is a serious injury Carr could be ruled out of Springbok contention for the tour to Ireland, Britain and Italy.
Carr has been part of the larger Bok training squad and was a virtual certainty for selection.
Western Province face the Golden Lions in the final at Newlands this Saturday.
