"Photobomb" has blasted its way to the top to become the 2014 Word of the Year, Collins English Dictionary announced this week.

Photobomb beat the likes of "vape", "preload" and "al desko" to be top word for 2014 , the publishers said.

Photobombing - the habit of inserting oneself into other people's group photographs and selfies - this year reached an unprecedented level with celebs and high-profile personalities getting in on the act, most notably Queen Elizabeth II, who unwittingly photobombed the Australian hockey team at the Commonwealth Games.

Another word that shot to prominence this year is Tinder.

The dating app Tinder matches users in their local area, who swipe right to like a profile and left to reject it.
