Bafana Bafana have shot up 10 places to number 57 in the latest Fifa World Rankings released yesterday.

It is their highest position since they reached 54 in January this year, before rapidly slipping down the rankings as the tenure of former coach Gordon Igesund came to an end.

The promotion follows their 2-0 away victory in Congo in an African Nations Cup qualifier earlier this month, and a less impressive 0-0 stalemate at home.

Bafana have also jumped two places in the African rankings to 12, ahead of Mali.

But the top mover last month was Togo, who jumped an astonishing 73 spots to number 52.

Quite how they managed that feat on the back of a pair of 1-0 wins over Uganda is unclear.

Germany continue to head the list, followed by Argentina, Colombia, Belgium and the Netherlands.
