Holders Platinum Stars were drawn at home against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout semifinals after holding Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless draw yesterday and going on to win their quarterfinal 5-3 on penalties.

Orlando Pirates and Supersport United are pitted together in the other semifinal on the weekend of November 8-9. The exact dates and venues will be announced later in the week.

Chiefs had only themselves to blame for not taking their chances in a game that marked their first setback of the season. George Lebese was the only player to fail in the penalty shootout as his shot was saved.

Chiefs had numerous chances but spurned them, while Stars played a defensive game and were happy to take the game to the shootout after two hours without any goals.

Stars had their only real effort of the first half when Ndumiso Mabena's curling free kick was tipped over by Chiefs' goalkeeper, Nhlanhla Khuzwayo.

As the game headed to extra time, Bernard Parker was just centimetres off target with a header from a corner.

Stuart Baxter made a double change early in extra time, bringing on Lebese and Siphelele Mthembu, but the best chance fell to Stars striker Eleazar Rodgers, who after evading the offside trap and, with only Khuzwayo to beat, panicked and blasted over the top of the Chiefs goal.
