The chancellor of a Chinese university has come under fire following claims that it was operating an underground brothel, at which student card-holders were given discounts.

Wuhan's Wuchang University of Technology has 15000 students , according to its website.

But its campus offered more than just literature and countryside views, a report in the Beijing Times newspaper said yesterday.

For a secretive sex club was allegedly operating inside a five-floor luxury hotel on university property. A whistleblower said he was shocked to discover that such extra-curricular services were being offered on campus.

Details of the alleged sex club emerged after an undercover investigation in which a Beijing Times reporter posed as a student to gather information on the hotel's clandestine after-class services.

One hotel employee allegedly offered to procure female prostitutes for the reporter and said that clients who possessed a student card would receive a discount. "You can ask for any kind of girl you like, so that you won't be disappointed when she arrives," she said.

But the employee became angry when the reporter, who was posing as a student, tried to haggle down from her suggested price of £46.70.

"You students are rich. You just don't make money but your parents give you a lot of money," she said.

University officials denied any knowledge of or link to the hotel and its alleged prostitution racket.
