A woman, who survived last year's horror Field's Hill crash, was killed when she was hit by a car.

Community organisation, Field's Hill Helping Hands, said Cecelia Shabalala was standing with a friend on a Pinetown pavement when she was knocked down.

The accident happened five days ago.

"It is said that the car lost control. The car hit Cecelia and the impact (caused) Cecelia to fly through the air and land motionless under a truck parked nearby. Cecelia suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to King Edward Hospital via ambulance, but sadly died on route," the organisation said on its Facebook page.

Members of the organisation met Shabalala for the first time last month.

"Cecelia had been bed-bound for a prolonged period. Unfortunately due to the extent of Cecelia's injuries and prolonged stay in hospital, she was unable to return to work and therefore became unemployed.

"Cecelia had fractured both her legs and hips in the truck accident therefore requiring surgery. Due to the nature of her injuries she used crutches to help her get around. Despite this Cecelia was coping well."

"She stood in front of us smiling and boasting about how far she had progressed from her injuries. She looked so well and was enthusiastic about getting her life back on track," the organisation said.

Cecelia's sister Thulile said her tragic death was a shock to the family.

"It is a sudden loss to the family and friends. It is a loss that does not make sense. Sometimes life can be so unfair when things happen to good people. The sudden death of our sister has left us as a family shaken and unsure. The police are still doing an investigation on the case," she said.

Cecelia leaves behind an eight-year-old son.

She had survived the September crash when a 40-ton 18-wheeler truck ploughed into four taxis and two cars on Fields Hill, Pinetown, killing 24 people.
