Dubai is probably the last place in which you would expect Lira to have a following but the multi-award-winning singer has been hand-picked - together with Lana de Rey, Lykke Li and Ciara - to attend the Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience this week.

It is expected that she will perform at the main gala dinner.

The event, at the Dubai Mall, is in its second year. It starts tomorrow and will run until Saturday.

The 35-year-old's American publicist, Sasha Brookner, has again come in handy, landing the Feel Good singer a place in the VIP spotlight along with Vogue Italia's Franca Sozzani and British Vogue's Suzy Menkes, Roberto Cavalli and Elie Saab, among many others.

Lira said yesterday: "They called my publicist in California and sent an invitation through her. I heard 'Vogue' and 'Dubai' and I was sold.

"I was due to perform at a private function and so I asked my client to release me so I could perform at this event."

Unsurprisingly, she has gone to her trusted designer, Sylvester Falata, to create "a special African-inspired outfit" for her performance. For the dinner, she will be dressed by US designer Tory Burch.

She promised "something classic" for her performance.

"I [also] intend to do some shopping. I'm taking an extra bag because I'll have access to the latest lines from leading brands."
