This Saturday, on Halloween, visitors to the Pretoria Zoo will see snakes slithering out of carved pumpkins, penguins with fangs and tarantulas gobbling up worms and flies.

Zoo spokesman Craig Allenby promised an afternoon of "blood and gore - not for those who shiver and shake". The thrills, he said, would ha ve an educational value.

This will be the third Boo at the Zoo Halloween festival.

Family activities will include the feeding of Komodo dragons and elephants and a demonstration with seals.

Said Allenby: "Parents and children can explore our attraction of the day, the ghost house. We are not saying what will be in the ghost house to keep the suspense. We hereby issue a travel advisory not to be afraid this Halloween and join us this weekend," he said.

Allenby said about 4000 visitors are expected on the day. Tickets are R75 for adults and R50 for children.
