Orlando Pirates roared back in the second half to take all three points after Sifiso Myeni stuck away a stoppage-time winner at the Peter Mokaba Stadium yesterday for a 2-1 triumph against a makeshift SuperSport United.

Myeni hit home a left-foot shot in the 94th minute to take Pirates to 17 points from 10 matches with a revitalised performance after a half-time tongue lashing from coach Vladimir Vermezovic.

SuperSport looked to be cruising to yet another win over Bucs, having beaten them in the Telkom Cup semifinal a fortnight ago, but Pirates showed character after the break.

SuperSport coach Gordon Igesund rested key players and protected others on three yellow cards but even without the regulars, the Pretoria-based side had the half-time lead after Thuso Phala's 21st-minute goal.

They could have wrapped up the game had Dino Ndlovu not missed a one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper shortly after the break. But after that it was all Pirates as Oupa Manyisa and Myeni fired the team up, and changes off the bench gave them added impetus.

Issa Sarr was brought in to replace Lehlohonolo Masalesa as a new midfield option as coach Vermezovic again wrung the changes in the Buccaneers' line-up. It was Masalesa's error that led to SuperSport's goal in the 21st minute.

Pirates had two chances to equalise before half-time but wasted both. But they took charge after Sarr headed home a corner in the 73rd minute and in the end were worthy winners.

Mogomotsi Selebi reports that Bloemfontein Celtic rode their luck in a league match against Chippa United yesterday which they won by a single goal.

A Lerato Lamola goal with only eight minutes remaining saved coach Ernst Middendorp's blushes.

Celtic were in control for the better part of the match, but failure to convert chances almost cost them.
