Platinum Stars made Kaizer Chiefs fight every inch of the way to preserve their unbeaten Absa Premiership run, which now rises to 15 after last night's 2-2 draw at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Stars forward Robert Ng'ambi opened the scoring in the ninth minute, Siphiwe Tshabalala equalised in the 16th and Eleazar Rodgers made it 2-1 to Stars in the 45th minute to complete the first-half scoring.

Chiefs' defender Tefu Mashamaite scored the equaliser in the 62nd minute.

Stars, having lost three times to Chiefs this season, had clearly grown sick of the taste of defeat.

Coach Allan Freese sent his players out breathing fire, determined to add to their win on penalties against Amakhosi in the Telkom Knockout.

Dikwena breached a defence that twice, until last night, had conceded only five goals in 20 league and cup games.

Amakhosi, on the back of convincing victories against Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits amid talk of becoming South Africa's "Invincibles", were off-key early on in defence but rallied impressively in the later stages.

It all made for a scintillating contest. Facing Stars' half-time lead, Chiefs, as determined as their North West foes to at least avoid defeat, fought back with grim determination in the second half.

Enticed by the lure of better money, Chiefs play their next two home games at Peter Mokaba.

It might be a schlep for the players to travel for the three hours up the N1 to Polokwane, but at least they can play in front of a decent crowd, which has not been the case at FNB Stadium this season.

Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter had his Georges - Lebese and Maluleka - back in his starting line-up.

Morgan Gould also started in place of Mulomowandau Mathoho in central defence.

His Stars counterpart, Freese, deployed Tintswalo Tshabalala at left back for the injured Luvolwethu Mpeta.
