The sun is shining, the surf is up and a new luxury swimwear brand will have you diving into those refreshing waves in style.

Designed and manufactured locally, Himeros has filled a niche in the marketplace by offering South African women a swimsuit line that caters to different body types.

Made for modern fashionable women looking to make a statement with their swimwear, the swimsuits have decorative and distinctive designs .

Himeros was the name of the Greek god of sexual desire; he was one of the young Erotes (winged love gods).

As the son of Aphrodite, he was known to enjoy the ocean and loved being surrounded by beautiful, confident women in tiny bits of fabric that barely covered their bodies - much like the scanty bikinis of a later age.

Himeros has been on the market for less than three months and already head designer Phumi Nkosi has unveiled the brand's second collection on the back of high demand for the sexy pieces.

Zanele Zicwele, Himeros marketing and public relations boss, said the design team decided to go with swimsuits instead of clothes because they saw a gap in the market for stylish swimsuits that catered to different shapes and sizes.

She said the brand aimed to be globally competitive and wanted to accentuate every woman's beautiful figure. The line is divided into three ranges:

  • Desire (for when a woman wants to show more skin and is feeling confident);
  • Bold (when a woman feels like a diva and is daring to be different); and
  • Simplicity (for comfortable yet sexy relaxation).
