Former Proteas and Western Province batsman Herschelle Gibbs hopes to play for the Chevrolet Warriors in the Eastern Cape next season.

Gibbs, who turns 41 next month, let the cat out of the bag while commentating on Radio 2000 during the third Test between South Africa and the West Indies on Radio 2000 this weekend.

"I'll know by the end of next week whether I'll be playing for the Warriors. But things are looking good," said Gibbs.

The right-hander last played competitive cricket forSt Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League in August 2013.

Apparently talks were set in motion when Gibbs met interim Warriors CEO Thando Booi during the Boxing Day Test in Port Elizabeth.

Booi yesterday confirmed talking to Gibbs but said the deal was not cut and dried.

He said the deadline for contract negotiations was the end of the month and he would discuss player requirements with coaching staff on Wednesday.
